They have chosen not to argue with the voters over policy but instead to argue with voters over who they are and what they as citizens believe.
They have foolishly challenged the voting electorate to the sort of political duel that if continued, will result in the Obama administration being listed alongside that of Buchanan and Carter as the most remarkably inept leaders in American history.
I waited until the end of the day to type a posting because I wanted to see what might be said at the president's carefully scripted healthcare rally. It's strange to me that the mainstream media insists on referring to these as town halls, since anyone who watches them can see that they are controlled events where questions are set up like a T-ball game and everyone can see the question floating in the air and the president taking a swing at it with an oversized bat.
The question and bat are prepared well ahead of time so you continue to think that there might be a little more spontaneity written into the performance. But there's not -- deadly boring and arrogant are tough things to sit through but apparently there are those that enjoy that sort of experience.
One thing that did catch my ear however, was the relentless repetition of so few talking points by local presidential supporters; who spend a great deal of time claiming conservatives are slaves to talk radio hosts and cable news channels.
This is not to say that phrases often heard on radio or television aren't going to be repeated it's just that the same four or five are now being repeated by the far left so often that it begins to become apparent that they don't actually want to talk about any specifics that are in this bill or combination of bills.
One wonders how supporters can think they can go in one quick pivot from reforming health care to attacking pharmaceutical and insurance companies without well-informed people picking up that change of tactics and getting the message that it changed because the old one wasn't working.
This administration and its legislation are on the ropes and whether or not they are able to make it to the bell at the end of the round is very much in question.
