In a sure sign that McCain's new tact of raising the character and association issues of his opponent is having an effect; the New York Times in conjunction with CBS news now says that the attacks are causing a widening gap between 0bama and McCain.
This has been precisely the prediction that many conservative pundits stated would occur if McCain began to make traction with the issues of judgment and character.
It does not take much of a political observer to note that if John McCain's strategy was harming his campaign, the New York Times and CBS news would clearly be suggesting he continue it.
We also hear almost daily breathless reports as the mainstream media attempts to brand the extremely large crowds that McCain and Palin are drawing as being made up predominantly of dangerous lunatics. Any show of emotion by the crowd against the media's candidate/savior is branded as dangerous.
In every large crowd no matter what side one is on there is inevitably a few idiots and considering some of the rhetoric from representatives of the liberal persuasion it seems like they are overrepresented on the left.
McCain may be slightly behind in the national polls but is probably closer in the battleground states than the media would like to report, especially given the polling methods, where they seem to be oversampling likely Democratic voters.
The fact that 0bama is still in a position that McCain is in striking distance given the political and economic climate is surprising. If Hillary Clinton were the nominee she would most likely be a solid 10 to 12 points ahead in the polls.
