Interesting news for all you bitter people clinging to your guns out there as it appears some of you are using your Second Amendment rights to defend yourself.
As reported in USA Today the number of justifiable shootings by both police and private citizens is at the highest rate in more than a decade. Several university professors were quoted in the story with one of them coming to the conclusion that citizens were just benefiting from the recent gun "legalization movement"-which is something by the way that I thought happened in 1789.
The same professor also said that he felt that the "movement" contributed to a "greater willingness" of citizens to defend themselves.
The stories worth reading if for no other reason than the slightly incredulous take that the college professors and the paper itself seems to have on the idea of citizen oriented self defense. They clearly believe they're describing an alien culture and are mystified enough that college professors in the big cities seem to feel the need to study it.
What seems to exist between the lines in all of these types of stories, is the struggle that some intelligentsia have with the idea of taking responsibility for one's personal and family protection. The conventional wisdom amongst this group is that one should reason with criminals or simply cede control to them while hoping they won't bother you.
