State Board of Education Not Eager to Join Ritter's Appeal Of Property Tax Increase -- Internal Memo Reveals Concern Money May Not Go to Education

An interesting article from the website Face the State has highlighted that the state board of education which had originally signed on with the Governor and the court case regarding the mill levy freeze/tax increase was having trouble deciding whether or not they will join with the Governor in an appeal.

As pointed out in the article which can be accessed by clicking here the board has met twice without making a decision and has resisted efforts to have a public vote on whether or not they will join the Governor in his appeal.

Part of that may be clearly a notion that it is becoming less and less popular of a position to support this tax increase.

A very illuminating internal document was uncovered by Face the State with correspondence between the board members concerning our own Bernie Buescher's comments that the money from the freeze/tax could go to programs other than education.

One of the board members says that "...if this is for all taxes then this is very different and the voters need to vote on this" click on the link here to go to the document.
