Oil Tax Backers Can't Get R Done In the Legislature; Takin It to the Streets!
Representative Kathleen Curry of Gunnison has been unable to get her gas tax referendum pushed through the legislature so the lobbying interests that she represents are going to try and do it by referendum. You can read the story here.
It's not that she loves her state less it's just that she loves taxes more.
Nothing wrong with making the energy industry pay its fair share for its impacts but the state has lost jobs, been receiving less revenues, including energy and the legislature has passed the biggest budget ever.
With this in mind a little fiscal discipline and prioritizing of expenditure might not be a bad idea.
However, we realize that what will happen is all kinds of taxes will be raised, more fees will be assessed and state government will be about as efficient as a steam engine.
