It's become very difficult for grassroot conservative groups and activists to counter large amounts of money thrown into issues by extremely rich progressives.
In the case of rich Hollywood and entertainment types using their money or influence to raise money on behalf of progressive causes, there's little doubt that we have encouraged or at least allowed it to happen.
It was not that many years ago that studios and agents did everything in their power to keep Hollywood types from being too political or
scandalous, for fear that Americans would not buy their product if they were too far off what was felt middle America could stomach.
The players were almost always doing pretty much the same sorts of things they are now, it was just at some point the Hollywood establishment thought we might care.
The message they have received the last few years is that we apparently not only don't care but are fascinated by aberrant behavior.
When it became obvious the American public would not punish Hollywood types for their behavior by not buying their product, the system became turned on its head and folks of questionable or bizarre behavior patterns that have always been drawn to entertainment, began to see an opportunity to a assuage some guilt for their swift ascension from mediocre waiter to multimillionaire by supporting legislation forcing us to give away our money.
They also realized they could support causes that would make their own behaviors and lifestyles involving drugs and whatnot more acceptable to the community and that appears to be what they have done.
So when we next complain about large donations of money or star power to causes we think are foolish or harmful, let's remember where they derive both of these resources-mainly from us...ed
