I waited until this morning to do postings since I wanted to see the White House budget report and follow up on the Congressional Budget Office's figures for the sadly misnamed health-care reform bill now ping-ponging around Congress. Well the White House has refused to release its budget update as scheduled and has put it off until the middle of next month to release word on its contents. Various commentators believe this is because it is going to be a dismal record of spending no matter how much lipstick is applied to it and the White House is hoping to put it off until the congressional recess; that way no one will be available to talk about it from the Democratic leadership side, at least in Washington.
Shocking beyond even this jaded commentators expectations are the reports posted on Drudge about what has been shown on Recovery.Gov concerning the expenditures on the stimulus projects so far. Click here to go to the Drudge Report if you'd like to take a look. The expenditures, while specious in themselves, additionally have moved into the thousand dollar hammer and $6,000 toilet seat area that is so often quoted as an indicator of poorly overseen military spending.
Many of you know that the White House and congressional Democrats appear to be gearing up for a battle with their own budget office due to its estimate of a $1.5 trillion deficit as a result of the health reform bill as presently configured.
I cannot recall a piece of legislation in the last 50 years of review that is both so expensive in terms of raising the deficit as a portion of gross domestic product and such an enormous power grab from both the private sector and state governments.
As it is reviewed, its mandates for controversial positions, such as federally funded abortions and the rendering of illegal the creation of new health-care policies by private insurers once the bill goes into effect, are coming to light as outside organizations read through the over 1000 pages of legislation.
Just to put a bright red cherry on top of government spending you can click here to go to a piece written on minority owned broadcasters asking for federal bailout money.
