Chris Dodd and Michael Bennet Have Something in Common -- Washington and out-of-state interests seem to like them a lot better than Their Own States

Jessica Peck Corry at the politics West blog has a great piece on the fund-raising effort of our accidental Senator Michael Bennet:

"While Bennet earned not a penny from donors in Pueblo, Greeley, or Grand Junction in the last fundraising quarter,
he brought in more than $400,000 -- or nearly a fourth of his total yield — from California, New York, and Washington, D.C."

It's very clear that the race for United States Senate in Colorado is to be funded primarily on the Democratic side by out-of-state money as Democrats scramble to hold onto a Senate majority in the face of what looks increasingly like a buyer's remorse year
from the voters for Democrats in 2010.

Colorado voters and those on the Western slope in particular have short patience with rampant vote buying by out of state interests as was shown very clearly in Mesa County and the incredibly lopsided spending by Bernie Buescher in his last race (his present job is not the result of a race but rather him being carried over the finish line by Governor Ritter).

Unfortunately, the degree of fundraising has reached such dizzying heights that any Senate candidate hoping to challenge Bennetwill have to raise a tremendous amount of money from all sources to have his message heard. But the message we should be getting right now is that the Democrats intend to have a long distance fight with Colorado voters.
