Governor to Put State Budget Online -- you May Not Be Able to Balance the State Checkbook But Now You Can At Least See It


Governor Ritter announced in his State of the State address that he intended to follow Republican lawmakers suggestions thathe encourage transparency in the budget process by making simplified version of the budget available online. (Click here to go to the Face The State article about this topic)

We have been critical of the Governor in so many areas in the past but on this occasion I think we must give him credit for adopting a good suggestion.

The state budget obviously is quite large and will not lend itself to easy interpretation but the willingness to share it with the taxpayers demonstrates a degree of appreciation for the people who foot the bill.


In the past some felt that we simple folk could not possibly understand the mighty mechanism of government and its finances- or in some cases that we might understand them all too well. In any event, this is a step in the right direction.
