In running our usual check of local issue committees we noted that the campaign to increase the number of commissioners in Mesa County from three to five had two major contributors: the Mesa County Democratic Central committee which gave $1000 September 15 and the Western Colorado Congress which gave $1200 on September 9.
This is especially surprising since the Western Colorado Congress has been in the midst of financial difficulties and had to lay off staff. So this left-leaning organization must think this issue is pretty good for their agenda if they're willing to spend this much money on it at a time when they're struggling, ditto for the Democrats.
So if you like small government and nonintrusive government ask yourself if these are the guys that give it to you?
