PROVIDING KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHT FOR THOSE RIDING DRAGON SHIPS ON THE SEAS OF CULTURE AND POLITICS
A Letter from Representative King
Too Much to Ask
By
Representative Steve King
House District 54
Turned fifty the other day, ya…how did that happen, all I did was blink. So, I celebrated the fifty outstanding years on this earth and then started my bucket list (the list of things that you would like to do before you kick the bucket). I also stated another list that I would like to share with you. It's called my "Is it to much to ask?" list.
Is it to much to ask that the most powerful nation on this planet secure and protect its boards and communities?
How about having a functional and productive guest workers program? We can use our advanced technology and security systems to track a package, letter, product and numerous items across the United States. We can track, move, communicate, collect samples and power a robot on MARS, but a guest worker is way beyond our ability? Really??.., is that to much to ask.
Is it to much to ask that our 83 billion tax dollars a MONTH spent on services for people that are not citizens of our country or the responsibility of our country goes towards those that are?
In the great state of Colorado, is it to much to ask to be allowed to vote on a property tax increase? If this tax increase is such a great idea and the solution to all our K-12 education problems… pitch it to us, sell it to us, educate us, then let us vote. Or is following the law of the land to much to ask? It was just easier not to ask the voters … more politically expedient to bury this idea in the school finance act and slide it through like a Friday afternoon executive
order.
Speaking of that, the Governor's black Friday for tax payer's executive order. Is it to much to ask to have the tax payers of Colorado be able to talk to their employees (state workers who are in the top ten best paid in the United States) about benefit's and pay without the middle man of union's being involved. We have to ask how the Governor's order gives tax payers a better value for their tax dollars. We look forward to the large increase in productivity from state workers because of the Governor's executive order and we don't think it is too much to ask for the administration to "prove it."
Colorado is a great state, I have been blessed more than I deserve be able to live the longest part of my life here. I believe our best day's are ahead of us and it is not too much to ask for leaders to work above the bickering partisan politics, self-serving "growing government" bureaucrats and non-responsive state government systems.
We should be reminded of what President Abraham Lincoln said the purpose of Government is. "To elevate the condition of man, to lift artificial weights from all shoulders; to clear the path of laudable pursuit for all; afford all an unfettered start and fair chance in the race of life."
Create a value based, problem oriented state government. State government that is small, efficient and responsive to the people that make up the greatest state in the union.
We know that is not too much to ask.
