I had to admit a little surprise when I read today's newspaper of record's account of yesterday's Mesa County Republican Women's luncheon.
That meeting offered the opportunity to hear Commissioner Janet Rowland and her primary challenger discuss their job qualifications.
The discussion from both sides I heard had only a shadow like resemblance to the published report.
The article chose to focus on a couple of remarks from the challenger using them as accusations and defensive or should we say offended remarks from Commissioner Rowland to make her appear somehow wounded.
What a silly message that must be to those that saw the event.
I'm certain that Mr. Kearsley, the challenger, felt as though he had something more to say than that brief remark.
And Commissioner Rowland certainly had a lot more to say than the snippet used to make her seem offended and defensive.
One also has to admire the extra point attempt to somehow throw Commissioner Meis into the mix by choosing a couple of unfortunate quotes that really did not seem to be at the heart of Mr. Kearsley's presentation.
As someone that makes no secret about my choice in this election being the incumbent, I'm certain there are those that will see any remarks I might make as purely partisan.
However, painting Mr. Kearsley as a shrill attack dog and Commissioner Rowland as manifesting a one note defensive bleat does no justice to either, nor does it adequately reflect the event.
