Former Senator George McGovern Calls for Unity -- You Bet This Guy Knows How to Win


The picture to the left is of the most crushing electoral defeat in American presidential history. In case it's too small to see, the only state won in 1972 by George McGovern was Massachusetts.

He also won the District of Columbia.

Why Richard Nixon felt it was necessary to spy on his campaign is still a mystery. Senator McGovern also ran on the "get us out of the war right now" platform.

One major difference of course is that Senator McGovern was a patriot, albeit misguided and a courageous veteran of World War II.
