This week Collbran Republican Laura Bradford was officially nominated by the Republican county convention to run against party chief Democrat, Bernie Buescher, currently one of only two elected positions held by a Democrat in Mesa County.
She made a strong speech outlining the need for a return to Republican control of the legislature. Of course, the most compelling argument for return to Republican control has been the last two years of Democrat control.
Last year's term included such things as attempting to do away with the death penalty, eliminating a secret vote in union elections and various other things sent down from the national Democrat committee.
This year has been more of a focused attack on things like the criminal justice system, prisons and preventing anyone from undoing the massive tax increase of last year or from it being mitigated.
Personally, I believe it is a mistake to have both the legislature and the governor's mansion controlled by a single party, things actually seem to be more measured when at least one of the houses is controlled by the other party. Ms. Bradford would be wise to concentrate on this unfettered highway that exists with the representative House, the Senate and the Governor's mansion all controlled by a single party.
It was a situation that the Democrats thought was fraught with peril when they were out of power and now that they are in control, we can see why.
