Alert Reader post-Sent to me, I thought you all would find it interesting
The story (on yesterdays Sentinel website) about how the Salazar brothers have united to "fix" the federal mineral lease problem is amazing.
Here are two members of the Colorado Congressional delegation that represent western Colorado -- and they voted in favor of the spending bill that changed the distribution formula from 50% for the states to 48% for the states -- shorting Colorado as much as $6 million.
Naturally their constituents were upset about their vote so they've decided that the issue needs to be fixed and they're "going to do something about it." Well, why didn't they just vote the right way to begin with (like Wayne Allard did)? Is it because they didn't read the bill they were voting on? Is it because they were hoping no one would find out about the formula change? Aren't these guys in the majority back there? How did this happen?! The other interesting part of the story is that their proposed "fix" also includes poison pill provisions related to the Roan Plateau. Ken Salazar just won't give it up. He refuses to do the right thing unless he can get some red meat for his base (radical enviros) in relation to the Roan. Is the Roan a real place or just a bargaining chip in Ken Salazar's desk?
What's the point of having a Congressman in the majority if this kind of thing happens? Maybe it's time for Ken Salazar to quit running for vice president and get back to working on Colorado issues.
