G.J. ATHEISTS SEEK TO END WORLD PROBLEMS BY NIXING RELIGION: WONDERFUL HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD OF N. KOREA , CHINA, SOVIET UNION ETC. NOT CITED

Daily Sentinel -- Saturday, December 01, 2007

“We imagine a world without religion,” declares a display posted by Western Colorado Atheists on Saturday in the back stairwell of the Mesa County Public Library.

Imagine that world, one in which there never existed homophobia, Ku Klux Klan cross burnings, Salem witch trials, corrupt televangelists, Catholic church sex scandals or mosque bombings, the display implores its readers.

Editor's note: the interesting job that governments who outlaw or persecute religion have done in the area of human rights is always conveniently forgotten in these arguments against religion. Most of the world governments who have been the most anti-religious end up not particularly interested in the human spirit no matter what they believe animates it. And while we're thinking of these utopias of nonreligious principles let's remember to add Pol Pot's Cambodia, Germany under National Socialism and the happy island of Cuba.
