Just as the SEMA sign says, construction on the Highway 340 bridge is about to come to a close, ending more than a year of morning traffic bottlenecks.
Since Nov. 6, 2006, traffic on Highway 340 has been funneled into one lane eastbound.
Contractor SEMA, which is building the $110 million Riverside Parkway project, needed the space to excavate land beneath the bridge over the railroad tracks. It added another 50-foot span to the bridge to make room for the parkway underneath, said Paul Jagim, project engineer for the City of Grand Junction.

“We’re on track to open that to two lanes in each direction Thursday,” Jagim said.
