"Politico" Tone Points Out Conservative Success

If you're a follower of national political stories you will be familiar with the website Politico.com which was set up a couple of years ago to capitalize on what was going to be growing interest in the 2008 presidential campaign. Regular readers of the pieces were able to see that it had a decidedly left stagger in its walk but was constantly trying to act as though it was right down the middle.

It was a pretense it could afford during the 2008 election as Republicans fielded an unfocused Washington insider running, at best, a left of center campaign for president while trying to ignore the fatigue generated by the prior administration.

The disguise slipped most obviously during the ascendancy of Sarah Palin but after a months-long beat down by almost every media outlet, Politico toned down its stories to its usual approach. That approach was that conservatives were just kind of wrong, kind of all the time and liberals were always well-meaning if only occasionally wrong, intrepid rescuers of the Republic.

That's all changed now. If you visit the website over the last month you'll see the tone of 80% of the articles has become markedly more strident and derogatory towards conservatives, which to my way of thinking is to be expected and not truly bothersome.

What is tedious, however, is their constant chin scratching pieces concerning unnamed or unimportant Republicans or conservatives worried that all of the outcry across the nation against government swallowing up liberty somehow is going to hurt conservatives. This is clearly aimed at dissuading conservatives that voicing an opinion is actually hurting their cause.

What we can be sure of is that when those in opposition to your point of view suggest you do things differently- you should most certainly continue to do things the way you are.

Over the years it is abundantly clear that writers, pundits and media oligarchs (such as they are) on the coasts believe that cautioning conservatives from speaking, organizing or even voting for that matter, is the way to shoo them off from effective tactics and maybe convince a few simple readers who have no idea what's going on that the other party is simply a bunch of "cranks".

Won't work now; the people see each other on other media outlets and know they are not alone. What's more they will go to the polls to set things right
-that is the "crankiest" thing they can do to be heard.

Be of good cheer -- you're being heard all right and you're making a difference... some people don't like it.
