Man Of The People Means Only Some of the People -- Apparently, Not People Who Work For Private Businesses

Our local roundabout enthusiast and city Council member now running for a job made a comment on the local news that apparently stuck in some folks craw a bit.

"Roundabout" Doody stated that he felt he was the People's candidate as he is trying to gather signatures while circumnavigating the caucus system to try and run for county commissioner.

This comment apparently didn't sit well with some who reminded your humble editor about " Roundabout" and running the private ambulance services out of town.

There are so many other reasons not to support this candidacy that I forgot one of the most compelling; namely, that he was one of the instigators of doing away with the private AMR ambulance service and all their jobs to replace them with a more expensive city monopoly.

That not being enough the city then went after little Life Care ambulance service as well. This is summed up on a blog entry of the time from a blogger at a different end of the spectrum than your editor here.

In fact Grand Junction's staff report itself recommended that AMR be the provider for the city based on the fact that the fire department would incur more costs to provide the same service.

Their recommendation was overridden by a three to four vote that effectively sealed the fate of AMR and the employees jobs, see the link to the city workshop minutes here. This has been borne out by the discovery that the cost of ambulance service may be a lot more.

This candidacy may be a lot bumpier than the candidate ever expected.

Apparently, when you are one of the people trying to get rid of jobs and businesses that compete with government it doesn't sit well with some who lost those jobs.
